Efforts to Improve the Competitiveness of Food Industry
Release Time:2016/5/28 11:30:28

China's grain production has achieved "twelve consecutive increases", according to last year's total output of 62,143.5 million tons, per capita close to 1,000 kg, it can be said that the rice bowl firmly in their hands. However, in recent years, China's grain production, inventory and import have risen at the same time. What does the strange phenomenon of "foreign goods entering the market and national goods in the warehouse" mean? Originally, production can support ourselves. Why are there so many imports and inventories? It shows that our grain industry lacks market competitiveness.
Market demand is for low-cost and high-quality grain. It is not difficult to trace back the existing problems on the supply side. It is not difficult to find that China's grain needs to reduce costs, adjust its structure, improve and optimize its quality in the field of production. In the field of circulation, it is also necessary to destock. In a word, we must improve the competitiveness of domestic and imported grain.
How can we improve the competitiveness of our domestic grain? One of the most important links is to reduce production costs. China's per capita arable land area is at a low level in the world. For a long time, the production of grain by human resources and small and scattered business model are the main reasons for the high production costs of grain. To reduce costs, we must overcome this problem. One is scale operation, the other is mechanized, informationized and intelligent production. To meet these two standards, the most advantageous conditions are in the plain areas, as well as some shallow hills and Pingba areas, where China's major cities and towns and transportation systems are concentrated.
This actually involves regional structural adjustment and reform. This needs to change several misunderstandings. Firstly, we should not abandon grain growing or even reduce grain production because of the high cost of grain production at present, but allocate various industries scientifically and rationally on the basis of stable grain production; secondly, we should not think that we have excess grain production capacity because of the high grain inventory, in fact, because of our huge population base. Previous grain production is absolutely not excess. In the process of carrying out the structural reform of agricultural supply side, we must keep the grain root, make up for the shortcomings of grain production, reduce the production cost of grain, improve the quality of products and market competitiveness, and put the rice bowl in our hands more firmly.
